A new Colt released in Japan in November 2002, designed by Olivier Boulay on the Smart Forfour's platform, returning the Colt name to Japan for the first time since the Colt Galant GTO. The Japanese Z20 was five-door only with 1.3 and 1.5 L DOHC MIVEC engines on a CVT, exported to a few right-hand-drive Asia-Pacific countries; a European version built by NedCar (Z30, from April 2004) had the 1.1, 1.3 and 1.5 L 3A/4A9 engines, a Mercedes-Benz OM639 1.5 turbodiesel (added June 2004) and a five-speed manual or six-speed "Allshift" automated manual. The Ralliart used a turbocharged, intercooled 4G15 (150 PS), the CZT badge came to the Z30 three-door in January 2005, and the Colt Ralliart Version-R went on sale in Japan on 30 May 2006 with 154 PS, Recaro seats from the Lancer Evolution VIII MR and a 240 km/h speedometer (163 PS from 2008; 300 Version-R Special cars in 2008 and 200 more in 2010). The 2008 Z30 facelift was designed by Omer Halilhodžić, styled after the 2007 Lancer, and dropped the turbodiesel. It was replaced in 2012 by the Mirage/Space Star.
