FactIts GSR-derived rear-wheel-drive Starion kept the old Lambda's A180 chassis code, a paper trail back to a car most people forget existed.
The second-generation Lambda / Sapporo of 1980 had styled steel wheels with blackwall tires, less chrome trim, interior courtesy lights, a fuse box with a built-in test light, under-seat and console storage and a radio antenna in the trunk lid, on a lengthened wheelbase and revised roofline that stayed within Japanese Government dimension regulations, with more shoulder room, leg room, headroom and trunk capacity — enough to merit a new chassis code, A160 in place of A120. It also got improved front geometry, an all-new four-link rear suspension, variable-assist power steering, turbo models (some with independent rear suspension, as later applied to the Starion), and from 1980 Japanese versions were available with electronic fuel injection or the new 2.3-litre Astron turbodiesel. North American cars (the Dodge Challenger after 1981, dropping "Colt", and the Plymouth Sapporo, an electric sunroof new) received only the 2.6-litre inline-four with balance shafts and 105 hp; they were discontinued after the 1983 model year to make way for Diamond-Star Motors products, with the platform and 2.6 engine continuing through 1989 as the Conquest. The GSR was a predecessor to the Starion, which continued the rear-wheel-drive Galants' model codes as the A180 while the new front-wheel-drive Galants started afresh from E10.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

Mitsubishi called the Galant Lambda a coupe, but the marketing term was 'personal luxury car,' because the Celeste already had that job.

The CTR Anniversary looks like a 911 but Ruf built its carbon monocoque from scratch, no Porsche body underneath.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

Switching to fuel injection let this V8 finally shed its trademark bonnet bulge — and only 405 of these flat-hooded Series 5 cars were built before the whole model retired in 1989.

Japanese buyers got a secret weapon in their MX-6 — the JDM-only KL-ZE V6 made about 40 more horsepower than the engine sold in the exact same car in North America.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
