FactMitsubishi called the Galant Lambda a coupe, but the marketing term was 'personal luxury car,' because the Celeste already had that job.
The Mitsubishi Galant Λ (Lambda) is a two-door, four-seat hardtop / notchback coupé built from 1976 to 1984 on the third-generation Galant, introduced in Japan in December 1976 and described not as a coupé but a "personal luxury car" because Mitsubishi already had the Lancer-based Celeste. It competed in Japan with the Toyota Crown, Nissan Cedric and Gloria and the Mazda Cosmo coupés, with frameless door glass and no B pillar, canopy vinyl roofs, velour upholstery, wheel covers with whitewall tires and numerous power assists. From 1978 it was exported as the Mitsubishi Sapporo (named for the Japanese city, positive after the 1972 Winter Olympics) in Europe and South America (also the Colt Sapporo in the UK), the Dodge (Colt) Challenger and Plymouth Sapporo in North America, and the Chrysler Sigma Scorpion, Chrysler Scorpion and later Mitsubishi Scorpion in Australia (as the flagship of Chrysler Australia's Sigma range); it was also sold as the Eterna Λ. Engines were the 1.6-litre 4G32, 1.8-litre 4G62, 2.0-litre 4G52 and 2.6-litre 4G54 (which helped introduce Silent Shaft balance shaft technology) plus one of the earliest uses of the turbocharged 2.0-litre 4G63T in the top GSR model with independent rear suspension, with a five-speed manual or three-speed automatic.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

Its GSR-derived rear-wheel-drive Starion kept the old Lambda's A180 chassis code, a paper trail back to a car most people forget existed.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

Switching to fuel injection let this V8 finally shed its trademark bonnet bulge — and only 405 of these flat-hooded Series 5 cars were built before the whole model retired in 1989.

Japanese buyers got a secret weapon in their MX-6 — the JDM-only KL-ZE V6 made about 40 more horsepower than the engine sold in the exact same car in North America.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
