FactMG handed the ZR's 2004 facelift to Peter Stevens — the same designer behind the McLaren F1 supercar.
The MG-branded hot hatch version of the Rover 25 supermini, built by MG Rover at Longbridge in Birmingham from 2001 until April 2005. Compared with the Rover 25 it had styling changes, sports suspension and a less baffled exhaust. It was one of Britain's most popular sporting hatchbacks, and in 2004 it was MG Rover's best-selling car, the first time any MG product had been the most popular of the many owners of the marque. The range ran from the ZR 105 with the 1.4-litre K-series and the ZR 120 with the 1.8 to the ZR 160 with the 1.8 VVC, which had the most advanced brakes with 282 mm vented front discs and 260 mm rear discs, plus two diesels with the 2.0-litre L-series turbodiesel, the ZR TD 100 and the TD 115. The ZR was facelifted in January 2004 with a design by Peter Stevens, who also designed the McLaren F1, and the facelift introduced the Trophy and Trophy SE models. A car-derived van, the MG Express, was built alongside it, 317 in all.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.
