FactNine SLS AMG Electric Drive cars were built with four motors each, Mercedes' quiet detour before the gullwing era ended.
The SLS AMG was the first Mercedes-Benz designed and built from scratch entirely by AMG, developed with help from David Coulthard and introduced at the 2009 Frankfurt show. It is a front mid-engine two-seater with gullwing doors in homage to the 300 SL, an aluminium space frame built by Magna Steyr, and a 6.2-litre M159 naturally aspirated V8 driving a rear-mounted seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle. A roadster with conventional doors followed in 2011, the more powerful SLS AMG GT in 2012, and nine all-electric SLS AMG Electric Drive cars with four motors were sold in 2013. Production ended in 2014 with the GT Final Edition; the Black Series is listed separately.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

AMG raised the redline to 8,000 rpm even though torque went down, and mounted the gearbox 10 mm lower to drop the centre of gravity.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

Switching to fuel injection let this V8 finally shed its trademark bonnet bulge — and only 405 of these flat-hooded Series 5 cars were built before the whole model retired in 1989.

Japanese buyers got a secret weapon in their MX-6 — the JDM-only KL-ZE V6 made about 40 more horsepower than the engine sold in the exact same car in North America.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
