FactIn 1965 the French government gave Yuri Gagarin — the first man in space — a Djet V S coupé as a state gift.
From 1965 until 1967 three types of Matra-Bonnet/Matra Sports Djet/Jet were produced: the Djet V (Djet 5, Jet 5) with a 1,108 cc Renault 8 Major engine of 70 PS, the Djet V S (Djet 5 S, Jet 5 S) with the 1,108 cc Renault 8 Gordini engine (90 PS per the text, 95 PS per the model table) and the Matra Sports Jet 6 with a 1,255 cc Renault 8 Gordini engine (105 PS per the text, 103 PS per the table), the top speeds again differing between text and table; a luxury version with wooden dashboard and bigger bumper was also available. In 1965 the name changed from Djet V to Djet 5, and in 1966 it dropped the D to become the Jet 5. Production of the Jet ended in 1967 with a total of 1,495 Matra (D)Jets, replaced by the Matra 530, though the last Jets (all Jet 6s) were sold in 1968. Wheelbase 2,400 mm (94.5 in), length 4,220 mm (166.1 in), width 1,500 mm (59.1 in), height 1,200 mm (47.2 in).

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

Before Lamborghini or Ferrari put an engine behind the driver for the road, a small French maker got there first: the 1962 Bonnet Djet was the world's first mid-engined production car.
