The LSC (Luxury Sports Coupe) was the sport-oriented upper trim level introduced with the Mark VII in 1984. The 1985 LSC was the first American vehicle with electronic 4-channel anti-lock brakes. For 1986 a number of changes differentiated it from the rest of the Mark VII line: analog gauges in place of the all-digital dash and engine output increased to 200 hp (SEFI, 200 hp at 4,000 rpm and 285 lb-ft at 3,000 rpm for 1986–87, per the page's table); a running change late in 1987 production added the 225 hp 5.0L "H.O." to a limited number of LSC models. For 1988 the base trim was discontinued and the LSC and the Bill Blass Edition were priced the same, both getting the 225 hp H.O. (shared with the Mustang GT; 225 hp at 4,200 rpm and 300 lb-ft at 3,200 rpm), and LSC wheels grew to 16 inches; 1989 changed the steering to improve LSC handling; for 1990 LSC models added a 120-mph speedometer and 16-inch BBS RA-style wheels, and the monochromatic LSC SE (Special Edition) was introduced. The aftermarket Mark VII GTC (dealer-sold, built by Cars & Concepts) added a body kit and performance upgrades, with a select few sent to Jack Roush Performance for suspension work and 5.8L and T5 manual conversions. Dimensions as the Mark VII: 108.5 in wheelbase, 202.8 in long, 70.9 in wide, 54.2 in high, 3,748 lb.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

Switching to fuel injection let this V8 finally shed its trademark bonnet bulge — and only 405 of these flat-hooded Series 5 cars were built before the whole model retired in 1989.

Japanese buyers got a secret weapon in their MX-6 — the JDM-only KL-ZE V6 made about 40 more horsepower than the engine sold in the exact same car in North America.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
