The second Excel (X2), sold in the UK as the X2, was built in Ulsan from April 1989 to July 1994 and in the Philippines until 1998, as a three- and five-door hatchback, four-door sedan and panel van. It introduced a fuel-injected version of the 1.5-litre engine and went through quick facelifts for 1990 and later years. In Europe the four-door Pony sedan was renamed Excel.
