FactDespite the Korean badge, the first i30 was actually conceived in Germany, at Hyundai's design and technical centre in Rüsselsheim.
The first-generation Hyundai i30 was announced at the 2006 Paris Motor Show by the Hyundai Arnejs concept, with a handful of pre-series cars completed in late 2006 and series production commencing in 2007. It was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2007 and released in mid-2007 for Europe and Australia, as a five-door hatchback and, as the i30cw, a five-door estate, sold in North America as the Elantra Touring for model years 2009 to 2012. It was designed by Thomas Bürkle on the Hyundai-Kia J4 platform, is related to the Hyundai Elantra (HD) and Kia Cee'd (ED), and was built in Ulsan, South Korea and Nošovice, Czech Republic, as well as in China and Egypt. It scored 4.2 in the Euro NCAP crash tests for the 2008 model and a full five stars from ANCAP.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

The 2016 i30 wasn't just a new generation — it introduced "Cascading Grille," the design language that would reshape every Hyundai that followed.

This i30's North American twin, the Elantra GT, got a mid-cycle engine swap in 2014 — reviewers said the original 1.8-litre simply wasn't sporty enough to wear the GT badge.

Japan was a minor market for the Swift: when it passed 2 million sales in 2011, about 39% were in India and 27% in Europe, against roughly 15% at home.

To adapt the Horizon for America, Chrysler bought nearly 100 Volkswagen Rabbits purely to reverse engineer them.

The Mk3 Focus RS's AWD system could send 100 percent of engine power to the rear wheels alone — built not in Ford's home country, but at the Saarlouis plant in Germany.

In June 2003, a Mégane II became the subject of the first ever live televised crash test with a real human driver at the wheel instead of a dummy — filmed by Top Gear.

This Wagon R redesigned its rear doors specifically to kill off the D-pillar — bigger doors with built-in quarter glass solved what earlier generations needed a whole extra pillar for.
