The F40 is the third generation of the BMW 1 Series, a five-door subcompact executive hatchback produced from July 2019 to 2024 at Leipzig and Regensburg. Unlike the rear-wheel-drive F20 it is built on the front-wheel-drive UKL2 platform, with xDrive all-wheel drive available, and shares its hood, fenders, dashboard and suspension with the 2 Series Gran Coupé. It premiered at the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show and launched on 28 September 2019, with turbocharged three- and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines.
