For the first time in its history, the LX dropped V8 power entirely — swapping in twin-turbo V6 engines, gas for the LX 600 and diesel for the LX 500d.
The J200 Lexus LX broke Toyota protocol: it's the first LX ever revealed before its own Land Cruiser sibling, debuting at the 2007 New York Auto Show while its Toyota twin waited.
Lexus dropped the LX's locking differentials for most markets in 1998 — except Canada, where you could still get the rear locker for one more year.
The first Lexus LX existed partly as a tariff dodge — Washington threatened a 100 percent tax on Japanese luxury imports but exempted SUVs, so Toyota rushed out a rebadged Land Cruiser to sidestep it entirely.
