For 2004-2005, GMC sold an Envoy with a retractable roof, the XUV — reviving a trick from the 1960s Studebaker Wagonaire, decades before anyone called it a 'convertible SUV.'

The 2004 Envoy XUV had a retractable rear roof and a folding mid-gate, half SUV and half pickup. Low sales dropped it for 2006.

Over the regular Jimmy it added HID headlights and a Bose stereo, yet it scored Poor in the IIHS frontal offset crash test.
