After 30 years as a small hatchback, the Move reinvented itself completely: this generation is the first ever built as a sliding-door microvan, not a conventional kei car.

This Move's end wasn't a normal model changeover — Daihatsu killed it in mid-2023 after its own rigged safety-test scandal took down several models at once.

This Move/Stella generation introduced Daihatsu's 'Smart Assist' collision-avoidance system — the first time any kei car had gotten that kind of safety tech.

This Move generation broke new ground for its whole class: Daihatsu's 'Smart Assist' collision-avoidance system debuted here, a first for any kei car.

Over 650,000 of this generation of Move were built before it was replaced in October 2006 — a steady stream of special editions right to the end.

Daihatsu sold a Hello Kitty edition Move in 1999 aimed at female drivers — complete with Sanrio-shaped door lock knobs and Hello Kitty gauges.

The first Move wasn't styled in Japan at all — Italian design house I.DE.A Institute penned it in Turin.
