The last New Yorker's cab-forward shape traces back to the 1987 Lamborghini Portofino concept, from the Lamborghini Chrysler had just bought.

1989 marked 50 years of the New Yorker name with no special edition, yet it was the generation's best year, over 100,000 built.

The 1988 redesign brought back something Chrysler had given up seven years earlier: hidden headlamps, last seen on the R-body cars before they were dropped in 1981.

The E-body was the smallest New Yorker ever made, and it could talk: an optional Electronic Voice Alert spoke warnings to the driver.

R-body New Yorker sales fell from almost 55,000 in 1979 to just over 6,500 in 1981.

The 1978 New Yorker Brougham was among America's last true pillarless hardtops, with frameless door glass that opened fully.
