The G06's angular kidney grille can light up on command — a BMW first. No BMW before this X6 had ever offered an illuminated grille.
Partway through this X6M's run, BMW simplified the lineup by killing the standard X6M outright in its 2023 update — Competition became the only way to get one!
The F96 X6 M and X6 M Competition were revealed on 1 October 2019; the non-Competition X6 M was dropped when the updated X6 arrived in March 2023.
BMW chose a racetrack in Qatar, the Losail International Circuit, to reveal the F86 X6 M.

The X6 M's twin-turbo V8 was the first turbocharged engine BMW M ever built.
The X6 M (and its X5 M sibling) were the first cars BMW M ever built with an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive — a first for a brand built on manuals and rear-drive.
