The TVR Tuscan Speed Six is a sports car manufactured by TVR from 1999 to 2006, its name paying homage to the original Tuscan introduced in 1967. It was introduced in 1999 and was available for media demonstration in 2000, because then owner Peter Wheeler imposed a ban on press reviews of the car. Initially it was fitted with the 4.0 litre version of the TVR Speed Six engine rated at 360 hp at 7,000 rpm and 420 N·m at 5,250 rpm; a Red Rose pack raised power to 380 hp with track-focused chassis upgrades and an AP Racing braking system, and the Tuscan S was the top-of-the-line model at 390 hp with aerodynamic improvements. It underwent a facelift in 2005 as the Tuscan 2, adding a full soft-top variant alongside the original targa, and production lasted until the closure of TVR in 2006; 1,677 were produced. Test results in a post-2003 Tuscan S without traction control or ABS gave 0-60 mph in 3.68 seconds. A modified version was used in the 2003 24 Hours of Le Mans, and again the following year.

No ABS, no traction control, no airbags — the Tuscan Speed Six shipped without any of them, because TVR's own chairman insisted, based on testing, that the car was safer that way.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

Switching to fuel injection let this V8 finally shed its trademark bonnet bulge — and only 405 of these flat-hooded Series 5 cars were built before the whole model retired in 1989.

Japanese buyers got a secret weapon in their MX-6 — the JDM-only KL-ZE V6 made about 40 more horsepower than the engine sold in the exact same car in North America.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
