The Renault 17, sold as the R177 in Italy respecting the heptadecaphobia superstition, is the four-round-headlight sister of the Renault 15 coupé, built by Renault between July 1971 and August 1979 and presented at the Paris Motor Show in October 1971. The R17 had two rear side windows, the front one retractable and the rear one hidden behind a louvre grille and folded inward, and a folding roof option; some markets showed the 17 with rectangular lights for TL versions. The 1565 cc 108 PS A-type engine in the more powerful R17 TS and Gordini was derived from the engine in the Renault 16 TS. At the 1974 Paris Motor Show the 17 TS was renamed the 17 Gordini, an attempt to fill the gap left by the recently discontinued Renault 12 Gordini, with nothing changed beyond the badging, and the TS and automatic models received a slightly larger 1605 cc engine; in March 1976 the TS received a new 1647 cc engine similar to that of the R16 TX, equipped with twin carburettors rather than fuel injection and producing 98 PS for a top speed of about 175 km/h. The 17 was marketed in the United States on and off until 1979 in small numbers, where later Gordinis had only a five-speed manual, a sliding roof and the 1647 cc engine with 95 hp at 6250 rpm. The factory developed a lightweight high-performance 17 at the Alpine Competition Factory, and a Renault 17 Gordini driven by Jean-Luc Thérier and Christian Delferier won the 1974 Press-on-Regardless Rally, a round of the World Rally Championship in Michigan.

We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

The Celica XX, Japan's name for the A60 Supra, introduced the world's first in-car navigation computer.

The CTR Anniversary looks like a 911 but Ruf built its carbon monocoque from scratch, no Porsche body underneath.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

Switching to fuel injection let this V8 finally shed its trademark bonnet bulge — and only 405 of these flat-hooded Series 5 cars were built before the whole model retired in 1989.

Japanese buyers got a secret weapon in their MX-6 — the JDM-only KL-ZE V6 made about 40 more horsepower than the engine sold in the exact same car in North America.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
