The GT-R50 by Italdesign celebrates the 50th anniversary of the GT-R and of Italdesign, which both fell in 2018, and is limited to 50 cars. Built on the R35 GT-R, it has a redesigned aluminium and carbon-fibre body described as a "car within a car", with stretched LED headlamps and "samurai blade" cooling ducts, designed with Nissan's European and American designers. Larger turbochargers and a strengthened crankshaft, pistons and rods raise output to 710 hp and 575 lb-ft; it has an active rear wing, 21-inch carbon-fibre wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes. The production version was unveiled in Italy in May 2020; Wikipedia gives no build dates beyond R35 production ending in August 2025.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

In Japan, McDonald's got a gold-wrapped GT-R Nismo, and a Tomica toy of it came with the Happy Set meal.

Every R35 GT-R engine was hand-built by one of just nine Takumi craftsmen at Nissan's Yokohama plant across the car's 18-year run — and each one stamped their own name on the engine they built.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

Switching to fuel injection let this V8 finally shed its trademark bonnet bulge — and only 405 of these flat-hooded Series 5 cars were built before the whole model retired in 1989.

Japanese buyers got a secret weapon in their MX-6 — the JDM-only KL-ZE V6 made about 40 more horsepower than the engine sold in the exact same car in North America.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
