FactOnly 82 XPower SVs were ever built, and in February 2005 — right before MG Rover collapsed — Rowan Atkinson bought one.
The MG XPower SV is a sports car built by MG Rover in Modena, Italy (chassis) and finished at Longbridge, based on the platform of the Qvale Mangusta (the De Tomaso Biguá). After buying Qvale MG Rover gave the project the code X80 and set up MG X80 Ltd; the X80 concept of June 2001 was thought too sedate, so Peter Stevens (exterior designer of the McLaren F1) made the launch model more aggressive, the conversion from clay model to production car taking 300 days at the Swedish firm Caran. The goal was a retail price under £100,000, the base model costing £65,000. The carbon-fibre body panels were made by SP Systems, assembled at Belco Avia near Turin, fitted to the box-frame chassis and finished at Longbridge, each car visiting six companies, with Fiat lights (Punto and Coupé), MG TF door handles and Rover 75 mirrors and switches. About 82 cars were built (excluding four XP prototypes), and only nine had been sold when MG Rover entered administration in April 2005; the last were sold at the beginning of 2008, three unassembled cars were bought by Eclectic Cars in March 2013, and Rowan Atkinson bought one in February 2005. The base SV has a 4.6 L Ford Modular V8 rated at 320 hp at 6,000 rpm and 302 lb·ft at 4,750 rpm, a 5-speed Tremec manual only, for a 0–60 mph time of 5.3 seconds and 165 mph; the SV-R is catalogued as its own generation. Wheelbase 104.6 in, length 176.4 in, width 74.8 in, height 52.0 in, kerb weight 3,395 lb. A relaunch as the XPower WR (540 bhp, supercharged) by MG Sports and Racing Europe in 2008 built no cars.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

MG quoted the XPower SV-R at 385 hp. Several sources clocked it closer to 410, the rare car that may have under-sold itself.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

Switching to fuel injection let this V8 finally shed its trademark bonnet bulge — and only 405 of these flat-hooded Series 5 cars were built before the whole model retired in 1989.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
