FactMeant as the comfortable Elise for people who wanted a boot and air conditioning, it sold so poorly it was replaced after just 458 cars.
The Lotus Europa S (Type 121) is a sports car built from 2006 until 2010 with a rear mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout, designed as a more comfortable variant of the driver-focused Elise and Exige, and it revived the Europa nameplate of the 1960s and 1970s. It has a larger boot, greater sound-proofing and easier cabin access, and includes air conditioning, a sound system, leather interior and carpeting as standard. It is a derivative of the Elise and Exige to the extent that the cars have variations of the same bonded aluminium chassis, but it has a longer chassis and completely new design. The mid-engine two-seat coupé has a 2.0 L turbocharged GM Z20LER Ecotec straight-4, rated at 200 PS (197 hp) and 272 N·m, coupled to a Getrag M32 6-speed manual, with a top speed of 143 mph. It was not a sales success, and the Europa SE, presented at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show with a revised turbocharger and re-calibrated controller for 225 PS, replaced it; 458 were produced.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

The Celica XX, Japan's name for the A60 Supra, introduced the world's first in-car navigation computer.

The CTR Anniversary looks like a 911 but Ruf built its carbon monocoque from scratch, no Porsche body underneath.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

Switching to fuel injection let this V8 finally shed its trademark bonnet bulge — and only 405 of these flat-hooded Series 5 cars were built before the whole model retired in 1989.

Japanese buyers got a secret weapon in their MX-6 — the JDM-only KL-ZE V6 made about 40 more horsepower than the engine sold in the exact same car in North America.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
