FactThis 2000 C/CS coupe introduced the 'Hofmeister kink' — the forward-angled notch at the base of the rear window that's been on nearly every BMW since.
The BMW New Class coupé range, the 2000 C and 2000 CS, was a coupé body built by Karmann in Rheine for BMW from the summer of 1965 to 1969, after BMW ended production of its Bertone-bodied 3200 CS coupé, the last of the V8 luxury cars of the 1950s, in 1965; based on the New Class platform, they introduced the 2.0 L version of the M10 four-cylinder (1,990 cc, an 89 mm bore with the 80 mm stroke of the 1.8) and replaced the 3200 CS as BMW's flagship. The 2000 C had a single-carburettor engine delivering 100 horsepower (75 kW) at 5500 rpm and was first introduced in 1965 as the 2000 C Automatic with a three-speed automatic, with the four-speed manual also offered from 1967; the 2000 CS had a higher-compression engine with dual twin-barrel carburettors delivering 120 hp (89 kW) at 5500 rpm and a four-speed manual. Styling was based on the New Class sedan with an all-new front end, the headlights behind a glass fairing and a grille consisting solely of a chromed double-kidney, and unlike the sedan the coupé was pillarless with no B pillar; it introduced the Hofmeister kink. Of the 13,691 built between 1965 and mid-1969, 9,999 were twin-carburettor 2000 CS, 3,249 single-carburettor 2000 C with automatic transmission and 443 2000 C with manual transmission. Wheelbase 2,550 mm (100.4 in), length 4,530 mm (178.3 in), width 1,675 mm (65.9 in), height 1,360 mm (53.5 in). In 1968 the coupés were replaced by the six-cylinder New Six CS (E9), with a longer wheelbase and front clip for the M30 engine.

The Celica XX, Japan's name for the A60 Supra, introduced the world's first in-car navigation computer.

The CTR Anniversary looks like a 911 but Ruf built its carbon monocoque from scratch, no Porsche body underneath.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

Switching to fuel injection let this V8 finally shed its trademark bonnet bulge — and only 405 of these flat-hooded Series 5 cars were built before the whole model retired in 1989.

Japanese buyers got a secret weapon in their MX-6 — the JDM-only KL-ZE V6 made about 40 more horsepower than the engine sold in the exact same car in North America.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
