The 2+2 coupé half of the Type 916 pair (GTV = Gran Turismo Veloce; the Spider is a two-seat roadster listed separately), styled by Enrico Fumia at Pininfarina with an interior by Walter de Silva at Centro Stile Alfa Romeo, and built at Arese and, from 2000, at Pininfarina in San Giorgio Canavese. It is based on a modified Type Two platform shared with the Fiat Coupé and Alfa Romeo Vola, with front-wheel drive and a 5- or 6-speed manual; it was produced from 1994 to 2005 (42,937 GTVs and 38,891 Spiders) in phases, the third restyled by Pininfarina. Engines: the 1.8 and 2.0 Twin Spark fours, the 2.0 JTS direct-injection four (2003), the 2.0 V6 turbo, and the Busso V6 in 3.0 12V, 3.0 24V and, from April 2003, 3.2 24V 240 PS forms; the 3.0 24V GTV reached 149 mph. Standard equipment included airbags, automatic air conditioning, ABS (EBD from 1998) and a leather steering wheel. The Brera and Spider (939) replaced them.
