FactThis coupe had a rear hatchback in 1954, a year after only the Aston Martin DB2/4 had tried one.
The Aceca is a fixed-head coupé built by AC Cars from 1954 until 1963 on the Ace's chassis, in three variations: the original Aceca with AC's Light Six engine, the Aceca-Bristol and the Aceca 2.6 with a tuned Ford engine. A hand-built grand tourer in the British tradition (ash wood and steel tubing, aluminium body panels, tubular ladder frame), it is notable for its rear hatchback, making it only the second car after the 1953 Aston Martin DB2/4 to include one. All share transverse-leaf-spring independent front and rear suspension, worm-gear steering, an optional overdrive on second, third and fourth gears and 16-inch spoked wheels with near 50/50 weight distribution; front discs were optional in 1957 and standard from 1958. The original Aceca used AC's 2.0 L (1,991 cc) Light Six, first produced in 1919 by John Weller, with power outputs of 85 to 105 bhp during production, which ended in 1961. From 1956 to 1963 the Aceca-Bristol used the Bristol 1,971 cc six: 105 hp in base Type 100B form and 125 hp as the Type 100D (the page carries a notice that this section cites no sources). The Aceca 2.6 debuted in 1961 with a 2.6 L (2,553 cc) Ford Zephyr 6 tuned by Ruddspeed in four (originally five) levels of tune, up to 170 bhp, so no single power is entered for it or for the AC-engined car. Production: 151 Acecas, 169 Aceca-Bristols and 8 Aceca 2.6es. The prototype (VPL 441) was used as a personal car by Donald Campbell from 1954 to 1956. Wheelbase 90 in, length 153.5 in, width 61 in, curb weight 2,120 lb (962 kg).

The CTR Anniversary looks like a 911 but Ruf built its carbon monocoque from scratch, no Porsche body underneath.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

Switching to fuel injection let this V8 finally shed its trademark bonnet bulge — and only 405 of these flat-hooded Series 5 cars were built before the whole model retired in 1989.

Japanese buyers got a secret weapon in their MX-6 — the JDM-only KL-ZE V6 made about 40 more horsepower than the engine sold in the exact same car in North America.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
