To run on unleaded fuel, the American Spitfire 1500 dropped its compression ratio to 7.5:1.

The Mark IV's new rear took its look from the Triumph Stag and the 2000, all drawn by Michelotti.

The Mark III raised its front bumper for new crash rules and swapped in a bored-out 1,296 cc engine.

The Mark II of March 1965 got a retuned engine with a revised camshaft and a water-heated intake manifold, up to 67 bhp.

The first Spitfire had rubber mats and a big plastic steering wheel, but also wind-down windows and exterior door locks.
