Toyota built the Chaser as a conservative executive sedan — but its rear-wheel-drive bones made it a cult favorite on the drift circuit instead, with non-AWD cars prized above all.

To match Nissan's rival Skyline GTS sedan, Toyota offered the Chaser with an optional permanent all-wheel-drive system called i-Four starting in 1993 — unusual for what was otherwise a traditional rear-drive sports sedan.

This Chaser spent its final years as a demoted flagship — Toyota Auto Store crowned the new Aristo above it the moment the Aristo arrived in 1991.

The Chaser's twin-turbo flagship borrowed its bucket seats straight from the Supra A60.

The X60 introduced the Avante trim, named for going forward, and that badge sat on top Chasers until the car ended in 2001.

This was the only Chaser ever sold as a two-door; after it, Toyota handed the coupé job to the Soarer.
