This GMT360 redesign was so thorough that, reportedly, the only carryover parts from the old Bravada were the automatic transmission and the 4WD transfer case.
From 1998 its SmartTrak all-wheel drive normally drove only the rear wheels, sending torque forward only when it detected slip, to save fuel.
Oldsmobile hadn't sold a truck-based vehicle since the 1920s — then in 1991 it jumped straight to a four-door-only luxury SUV with the Bravada, skipping pickups and two-doors entirely.
