The new Sentra borrows its face from the Leaf and Ariya, Nissan's electric cars now set the look for its gas cars too.

After three straight generations riding on a torsion-beam rear axle, the B18 Sentra finally switched to independent rear suspension.

It merged the Sentra and Sylphy into one global model, and in 2017 brought the first turbocharged Sentras ever sold in North America.

The EPA classed this Sentra as a mid-size car, because its 110 cubic feet of passenger and cargo volume just reached the threshold.

Production moved from Tennessee to Aguascalientes, Mexico, and the 2002 Spec V got red front bucket seats inspired by the Skyline GT-R.

The first Sentra sold only as a sedan, it was also the last generation assembled at Nissan's Smyrna, Tennessee plant.

Mexico kept building it as the Tsuru until May 2017, 1,849,289 in all, and it was the country's most popular car from 1997 to 2011.

Its four-wheel-drive wagon used an electrically switched transfer case, and yearly deliveries never topped 2,408.

The EPA rated the 1,875 lb Sentra MPG at 58 mpg on the highway, the best of any petrol car on sale at the time.
