In 1998 Lincoln briefly appeared to outsell Cadillac for the first time in decades, until an audit found the figures came from overzealous employees.

This Navigator went aluminum-bodied like the Ford Expedition it shares a platform with — ending up nearly 200 pounds lighter than its predecessor despite being physically bigger.

The Navigator had run V8-only since 1998 — for the 2015 model year Lincoln dropped it entirely and sold this generation with just a turbo EcoBoost V6.

Despite sharing its platform with the Ford Expedition, this Navigator's four-wheel-drive system was quietly downgraded to a single-range transfer case with no low-range gearing at all.

The 2003 Navigator's dashboard wasn't new-school at all — its symmetrical "dual-cockpit" layout was a deliberate callback to the 1961 Lincoln Continental, finished in real walnut burl.

In the Navigator's debut year, Cadillac briefly claimed to have out-sold it - until an audit forced GM to retract the figures and apologize, blaming 'overzealous' employees for inflating December Escalade sales numbers.
