The last El Caminos weren't built in the US at all — GM moved production to Mexico in 1985, the same year a fuel-injected 4.3L V6 became the base engine.

GMC sold this same truck as the Caballero, built at five plants before the line ended at Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, in 1987.

Chevrolet picked each 1973 El Camino's coil springs by computer, matched to that individual car's weight.

A utility vehicle with a drag-strip resume: the 450 hp LS6 454 turned this El Camino into a 13-second quarter-mile machine, as quick as the muscle cars it hauled parts for.

In 1967, Chevy restricted its 396/325hp L35 big-block to just two places: the Chevelle SS396 — and the El Camino. Only 2,565 El Caminos got it.

Chevy showed up two years after Ford's Ranchero invented the car-pickup segment and immediately dominated it: the 1959 El Camino outsold the Ranchero roughly 22,000 to 14,000.
