The rename wasn't about anything new under the hood: Chevrolet relaunched the Citation as the 'Citation II' for 1984 mainly to put distance from earlier safety recalls, with little more than new badging to show for it.

The Citation replaced the rear-drive Nova and sold over 800,000 units its first year, then got buried in recalls and became the X-body's cautionary tale.
