This Gran Turismo turned out to be the end of the road for the whole idea: BMW discontinued it in August 2023 and never replaced it with anything.
BMW broke its own playbook for this 6 Series: the convertible reached production before the coupe did, the reverse of how BMW normally launches a range.
This 6 Series ended a 14-year gap — BMW hadn't sold one since the E24 bowed out in 1989, right up until the E63 coupé arrived in January 2003.
The E24's predecessor, the E9 coupe, had no B-pillar at all — the 6 Series was the first of BMW's big coupes to add one back in.
