AMC put a 270-hp 327 into this Rebel hardtop for a $65 upcharge, a muscle-car price undercut by its own antiquated torque-tube rear end.

For 1960 AMC quietly dropped the Rebel name from marketing altogether, calling it simply the Rambler V8 engine option.
After the 327 went to the Ambassador, AMC just moved the Rebel name down to any Rambler running the 250 V8.

AMC announced a 288-hp fuel-injected Rebel option, then never sold one; every production car got a four-barrel carburetor instead.
